Your Team
We are growing our Trial Attorney team in [insert location]. As a Trial Attorney IV, you’ll be at the top of Nationwide’s legal career path. Your next move would be management.
You won’t have t billable hours and clients will come to you. You get to focus on trying cases. We’re a paper-free environment and most things are online and automated.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Managing Trial Attorney; you have no direct reports.
About You
So, you think you’ve got what it takes to make the cut? To be a Trial Attorney IV, you have:
The ability to manage 50 to 75 cases at a time and work with customers and Claims
A speciality in one or more areas of trial law
Knowledge of civil law and insurance contracts
A resourceful and creative approach
Worked in a structured environment and have a team-first attitude
Communication skills with all levels of management
The ability to adhere to Private Practice of Law policy
A working knowledge of the latest software ( i e email and case tools)
You should also have:
8 to 10 years of civil litigation, trial and/or agency hearing experience
A JD Degree from an accredited law school.
The ability to maintain a current attorney license in your state
Significant negotiation skills
Some background Insurance contracts and coverage matters
Effective and efficient info processing skills
Leadership skills -- the ability to motivate, influence, and problem-solve
Good time management skills and be organized
The ability to coordinate tough projects and cases
An nalytical and legal mind
Strong knowledge of state and local practices and rules
The ability to pass a credit and/or background check
Job Summary
In a typical day in the life of a Trial Attorney you might:
Lead or work on high risk, complex and/or difficult legal matters.
Head to the courthouse to represent clients in trials or hearings before courts or agencies, including appeals or arbitrations
Review cases and lawsuits under NTD Best Practices guidelines
Establish, communicate and put in place a Litigation plan. Foster and develop relationships with Claims
Use initiative to help expand and keep business
Prepare and try puzzling cases in all courts and agencies. Some cases may involve serious medical conditions or egregious activity
Recognize and promote settlement opportunities.
Obtain meaningful discovery, take depositions, and participate in motion practice
Mentor and train less-experienced trial attorneys or paralegals
Engage in team-building activities including volunteer efforts

Job Conditions
