Your Team

We are growing our Underwriting team in Scottsdale, AZ. We foster positive business relationships with co-workers, agents, brokers, program managers, and reinsurers.  

Our team develops, analyzes, and evaluates complex technical information about our clientele. As Senior Underwriter, you make independent judgment calls to ensure our company’s productivity.

Our team’s goal is to achieve production and loss ratio goals within an assigned territory.

Reporting Relationships: You report directly to the District Manager and you have 0 direct reports.

About You

So, you think you’ve got what it takes to make the cut? Senior Underwriters evaluate the programs and risks of potential clientele. You determine whether or not we will conduct business in a profitable manner. To be one of our Senior underwriters, you have:

●     A minimum of six years related experience or five years as an underwriter, excess & surplus lines experienced desired.

●     Stellar communication skills, orally and in writing, with individuals and groups

●     Advanced negotiation skills

●     An astute analytical awareness - ability to asses liability and exposure

●     An investigative mindset - finding out about a business with unconventional risks

●     Superior management skills – for monitoring lines of business and their aggregates

●     A creative outlook – for devising and implementing effective business solutions

●     A decisive attitude – able to make difficult judgment calls and deliver bad news

●     The ability to handle complex information and work at a fast pace with a heavy workflow

 

You should also have:

●     An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience

●     Completed general insurance courses - CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS,

      or ASLI

●     Well versed on underwriting policies, practices, and procedures,

      Insurance law, and property casualty market

●     Knowledge of Treaty & Facultative reinsurance concepts, Rating plans & plan

      concepts

●     Familiarity with the general agency system, company operations, regulatory

      issues & market conditions

●     A desire for continuing education, attaining licenses, & upward trajectory

 

Job Summary

A day in the life of a Senior Underwriter might include:

1.    Reviewing individual risks or programs

2.    Analyzing exposures to loss and developing premiums

3.    Achieving production and loss ratio goals through management and marketing

4.      Performing audits for compliance with company guidelines, state regulations, and

reinsurance conditions

5.    Handling policy maintenance items, making recommendations and reviewing

claims

6.    Fostering positive business relationships with agents and brokers

7.    Placing reinsurance per department guidelines and maintaining good working

relationships with reinsurers

8.    Traveling to agency offices and entertaining visiting agents as required

9.    Assisting with development of ideas and strategies for seminars and other

marketing campaigns

10.  Enthusiastically assisting with other responsibilities as needed

Training & Work Schedule
