Leadership of all Investment Consulting and Fund Research activities for Nationwide Financial business units including: oversight for the creation and monitoring of product investment menus for Variable Annuity, Variable Life, COLI and Retirement products; providing ongoing consulting for product distribution opportunities; research and due diligence of all external fund firms and strategies used by Nationwide; performing investment reviews and consulting with current Nationwide clients. This includes having responsibility for the overall thought leadership, direction, and high level strategic planning for all investment consulting and research functions provided to NF businesses as well as managing relationships across NF, IMG, and external parties to deliver competitive investment menus and distribution support that drives growth of NF products.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Establish strategic direction for Investment Consulting. Provide thought leadership for product investment menu and investment sales processes, including the creation and tracking of strategic plan, development andmanagement of new and existing business proposals and evaluation of business metrics.

• Establish Strategic Direction for Fund Research: Define and demonstrate the vision for fund research and how it enables success of products offered by NF. Accountable for establishing and managing a process to evaluate externally managed fund strategies. Maintain and present opinion on each strategy used in retirement and insurance menus.

• Leadership and Building Organizational Talent. Responsible for the development of IMG's investment consulting program, operating as the investment expert resource for NF business units. Work closely with the Head of Strategic Partnerships to effectively structure and communicate investment consulting strategy, objectives and initiatives to the IMG leadership Team, NF Business Unit Leadership, and NFLT. Challenge and drive team to ensure that the tactics developed and actions undertaken are consistent with agreed upon strategic direction.

• Public Plan Investment Reviews: Overall responsibility for the Investment Review program by coordinating plan assignments among staff of analysts, ongoing communications with RVPs, Program Directors, and Managing directors.

• Distribution Partner Due Diligence: Lead presentations to NF distribution partners performing due diligence on our investment selection process.

• Pro Account manager oversight: Perform ongoing oversight of investment performance of managed account strategies offered by retirement plans.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Breadth Across Enterprise

Responsible for oversight and leadership of all IMG investment consulting initiatives provided to over $200 billion in NF products as well as driving and providing thought leadership on NF cross-functional business development strategies.Investment expert to NF businesses on all externally managed strategies offered in NF products, and capital markets overall. This role is expected to be a critical partner to NF in acquiring and retaining clients. Provide support to IMG leadership on Nationwide Mutual Funds (NMF) opportunities in NF products.

Financial Responsibility and Scope

Responsible for establishing the strategic direction of IMG investment consulting, leadership and oversight of initiatives for NF product menus that consists of 200 mutual fund products, and over $100 billion in AUM. Provide ongoing distribution support to NF business with annual sales over $2B.

Leadership Accountability

Developing Strategy - The primary purpose of the role is to oversee and provide thought leadership for the short, medium, and long-term investment consulting strategy. – 50%

Providing Input on Strategic Direction - In fulfilling investment consulting responsibilities to NF Businesses this role is expected to gain insights into trends in Retirement Plans, Variable Product, and COLI markets that will be a valuable input into IMG’s Nationwide Funds growth strategy for both affiliated and unaffiliated distribution opportunities. 25%

Executing Strategy - The role provides leadership for the execution of IMG investment consulting and fund research strategy. – 25%

Team Composition

The role will have 3 direct reports (Director-level) and 13 indirect reports ranging from H Band to F Band.

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education/Certification/Licenses: Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, accounting or a related field preferred. Graduate studies preferred. FINRA Series 6 required. CFA preferred.

Experience/Skills: At least 10 years requisite experience leading investment analyst teams, preferably in mutual funds or similar products. Intimate knowledge of all significant investment management products and services including a detailed knowledge of all business and market trends that will impact these products. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as a member of a high functioning team. Proactive, innovative and creative skill set in order to meet client and enterprise needs. Ability to motivate others and build cooperative team. Very strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills. Proven ability to effectively collaborate with others, initiate action and adapt to change.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experience may take precedence. Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
