This person will be responsible for analyzing business segment data, conducting loss performance reviews, and making rate recommendations with respect to Nationwide Excess & Surplus / Specialty Insurance.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Passed at least 1 exam towards actuarial certification

  • Familiarity with Excel

  • Bachelor degree

Compensation Grade: E3


JOB SUMMARY: Continues to learn actuarial methodologies and excess/surplus property/casualty insurance product concepts through reading, training sessions and work assignments. Estimates future loss, expense, and premium results for ratemaking or reserving purposes using actuarial methodologies.

Job Description

Reports to: E & S Actuary, Director, or AVP Actuarial CORE

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Continues to develop knowledge of data sources and requirements; retrieves and manipulates data.

  2. Continues to develop knowledge of actuarial methodologies via actual work assignments.

  3. Conducts analyses that adhere to actuarial standards or practice: selects appropriate data sources and methods, makes assumptions, recognizes considerations and develops recommendations.

  4. Documents assumptions, methods, sources, considerations; organizes documents.

  5. Notes unreasonable results/non-optimal solutions and assists in resolution.

  6. Prepares memos, documents, and letters as needed. Communications are to be concise, logical, organized, and grammatically correct with the appropriate level of technical terms suitable to the audience.

  7. Develops personal work schedule to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks; coordinates with others when tasks involve others.

  8. Participates in Peer Tech Reviews. Reviews work of peers and also has work reviewed by them.

  9. Demonstrates satisfactory examination progress per the Casualty Actuarial Program.

  10. May assist with training new associates on standard work procedures.

  11. May make presentations to internal audiences and participate in team activities as requested.

  12. Performs other related duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Up to 2 years related work experience.

Education: Bachelors degree (preferred) in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics or related field with a strong quantitative orientation.

Certifications/ Designations: Must have successfully completed 1 - 2 Casualty Actuarial Society exams.

Knowledge: Knowledge of advanced mathematics and statistical concepts, basic actuarial methods/concepts, property casualty insurance terminology and product familiarity.

Skills: Demonstrated work product accuracy. Effective verbal/written communication skills; Demonstrated ability to comprehend actuarial concepts and other advanced statistical concepts. Demonstrated ability to think logically and perform actuarial methods in a timely manner. Ability to effectively operate personal computer with related spreadsheets and data base software.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (exempt)

Working Conditions: Normal office environment; extended and/or non-standard work hours based on project and service delivery needs. Travel as needed.
