JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for design, development and maintenance of the most complex and/or largest PL product lines for a region with respect to design, profitability and growth. Makes or implements recommendations regarding the design, pricing, underwriting, agency management, distribution, claims, and other processes related to managing the product in the field. Accountable for the profitability, growth and overall success of products in assigned region across multiple distribution channels (EC, IC, and Direct).

Job Description

Reports to: PL product leader, dotted line to RVP; Direct reports may include Associate Product Managers and Product Analysts.

Key Responsibilities:

Develops and executes an integrated short term and long term product strategy (including pricing and design features) across PL product lines.

Ensures appropriate placement of the product in the marketplace to achieve the strategic goals and maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements. Provides direction on system changes necessary to enhance product performance. Validates and confirms effective technology implementation of rate changes and other enhancements.

Directs new business development and implementation within the region. Designs financial objectives and strategies on communicating financial results.

Analyzes and reviews financial results, product profitability, business mix and competitive information and designs forecasting models for region.

Functions as an advanced technical resource on regional PL product issues. Reviews pricing, design features, and associated processes such as distribution and claims to ensure appropriate product design and placement. Partners with comparative rater team.

Conducts detailed research on all aspects of a PL product line to help make policy and practice decisions. Proactively identifies product opportunities in present markets or new markets and coordinates the organizations response.

Works with and through others to meet overall project timelines and maximize workflow. Designs project work plans for new business or new implementation.

Anticipates regional needs. Develops long-term business product plan that drives profitable growth at the local market level. Functions as a technical resource to leadership. Works collaboratively with the regional underwriting leadership in the development of standards and guidelines. Conducts loss and revenue planning.

Recommends the development of additional features/capabilities for PL products with responsibility for PL product growth and profitability in the assigned region. Consults with sales on distribution planning and product placement within the market.

Communicates product design decisions and plans to internal and external partners within the region. Communicates and coordinates work across regions.

Acts as a leader on the product team and provides coaching to Product Managers and Associate Product Managers.

Partners with peers internal and external relationships through regular contact with respect to PL product premium growth, success and profitability. Build strong relationships with sales and distribution partners to build market knowledge to ensure appropriate product placement.

Identifies training needs. Partners with the training department to develop and deliver new product training as appropriate. Leads in the coordination and implementation of new PL product and product changes.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Undergraduate studies such as insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, risk management, economics, finance, accounting, business administration or related field.

License/Certification/Designation: Insurance licenses or designations such as CPCU, ARM, CLU, FLMI, ChFC, CFP, NASD etc preferred.

Experience: Minimum of six years experience in personal lines insurance, financial services, marketing, or communications including two years previous product management experience.

Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of analytical tools, core business functions, underwriting policies and best practices, performance measurement techniques, and systems required. Knowledge of related pricing, marketing, insurance models/contracts, and financial analysis necessary.

Skills/Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communications necessary to effectively influence, train others, present information, communicate with management, agents, and policy holders. Must be skilled in the use of related systems and analytical tools. Ability to drive for results, deal with ambiguity, solve problems, learn on the fly, make decisions, see trends/patterns within regions necessary. Excellent project management skills necessary.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Additional hours as required. Some overnight travel required.

This position is based in Columbus, OH.This role will manage the profitability and growth of Personal Lines for the state of New York.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product managers are accountable for the strategy, profitability and growth of their states and lines of business including

  • Losses, Trends, and Rates

  • New writings and Retention

  • Market Intelligence

  • Utilize communication and collaboration to work across multiple business units including outside your reporting structure

  • Quarterly indications – analysis trends and determine rate need

  • Rate reviews – implement product changes including rate

  • Planning – use state expertise to forecast results

  • Departments of Insurance – influence key decisions

  • Distribution – drive profitable growth

  • Conduct proactive analysis of state results to drive strategic direction

  • Facilitate and lead state entry strategic decisions

  • Facilitate interdepartmental decision making

  • Participate in countrywide initiatives to deliver new and creative ways to drive personal lines results and product development

  • Develop and provide leadership for analyst direct reports

Skills Desired

  • Experience in Product Management, Pricing, Finance, or Underwriting

  • Business planning and strategic leadership experience

  • Experience managing direct reports

  • Working knowledge of Personal Lines

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with performing data analysis and data reporting

  • Ability to manage multiple, changing priorities

  • Ability to lead projects independently

  • Product Management experience in New York a plus

  • Advanced analytical skills

  • Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Tableau experience preferred.
